It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving Break is around the corner. I hope that you are planning to join us this Wednesday, Nov. 15th from 11:45-12:15 for the Polaris Thanksgiving Feast. The lunch is SOLD OUT!
Recently. the 5th grade team received communication from Balarat confirming our dates. They are March 6-8th.
Next Monday, the students and I will be wrapping-up our Mixtures and Solutions Unit. Please check next week's Thursday Folder for your child's work related to the Mixtures and Solutions Unit.
Next Monday, students will also be introduced to their next unit of study. For the next 5 weeks, the students will be studying about Renewable and Nonrenewable Energy. On December 5 or 7th, your child will be attending a field trip to NREL (National Renewable Enerby Lab located in Golden) in support of the unit. Families have already paid for this field trip.
Below, I have included the Performance Task, summative assessment, for the students learning related to Renewable and Nonrenewable Energy.
WARNING! Coal has been depleted as an energy resource and will not be available to your cities daily activities in six months. It is up to you, as a city utility engineer to come up with a solution to present to the local city council.
In order to accomplish this you must:
-Identify the impacts of coal depletion on your city.
-Identify all possibilities of replacement energy resources.
-Justify your choice of a replacement energy resource (you must include discussion about the sustainability of your choice, the renewable or non-renewable nature of your choice, and the geographical availability of your choice.)
-Justify why you did not choose the other resource options.
Currently, students only have homework that they are choosing to bring home or were unable to complete in class.
